    Thanks for these.

I was thinking, why aren’t the riders standings run more like the ATP tennis tour or world golf rankings doing a running total over 12 to 24 months, while keeping the teams standings as they are.

  2. I don’t know how it is on golf, I just know about the tennis ranking and I don’t think it will fit cycling. First of all tennis is an individual sport, while cycling is considered a team one. I don’t even agree with having individual rankings in cycling. Almost all the time they are not reflecting the reality.
Who’s the best? Nibali as it is going for the GC or Sagan that he is always in Top 10 or Kittel as he is good at sprints?
Remember that if the yellow jersey was accorded on some points criteria (like it was accorded I think at some editions in the ’20s) Sagan would have won the Tour de France.

More than this sometimes is not a fair sportive race and it is decided by the interest of the team. Remember Tour 2012 where Froome might had a chance in front of Wiggins if he was in another team, but Sky’s strategy kept him near Wiggins on the mountains.

So, in conclusion I don’t know exactly what would be the right type of ranking. It’s just that are a lot of cons for all the options and not so many pros. It’s good that not too much fans give so big importance to this World Tour rankings.
